The Rise of Generative AI: Boon or Threat?

The Department of Information Science and Engineering and Computer Science and Design in collaboration with the Institute’s Innovation Council IIC organized a thought provoking tech talk titled The Rise of Generative AI Boon or Threat on 6th August 2025 The event was held with the valuable support of Prof Sudarshan K Head of the department ISE and CSD and aimed to explore the growing impact of generative AI on various aspects of society industry and education It attracted active participation from students faculty and AI enthusiasts across disciplines The session was conducted by a team of 7th semester students Greeshma Sannidhi Rutika and Chandana who presented key insights into the capabilities opportunities and ethical challenges associated with generative AI The discussion covered real world applications in creative design content generation and automation while also highlighting concerns around data bias misinformation and the future of employment The presentation effectively balanced optimism with critical analysis prompting meaningful dialogue among attendees The event was coordinated by Ms Aparna N under the guidance of Prof Sowmya Staff Advisor AISE and Prof Archana Staff Advisor ACODE whose mentorship ensured the session’s academic depth and smooth execution A vibrant QA session followed encouraging participants to engage in further discussion and share perspectives Overall the talk successfully fostered awareness and critical thinking around the responsible use of generative AI technologies in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape
