REPORT ON BMC IN THE DIGITAL AGE: BALANCING INNOVATION & CYBERSECURITY The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS) at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru, in association with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and Startup and Incubation Cell, organized a workshop titled BMC in the Digital Age: Balancing Innovation & Cyber security on 25th March 2025. The session aimed to provide students with insights into the Business Model Canvas (BMC) while addressing the crucial role of cyber security in modern digital enterprises. The workshop was conducted at SSOSC Lab and featured Mr. Chinmay, an ethical security expert, as the resource person. The session began at 10:00 AM and saw active participation from students eager to learn about the intersection of business innovation and cyber security. Mr. Chinmay commenced the workshop by explaining the significance of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) in structuring a startup or business idea effectively. He elaborated on the nine building blocks of BMC, which include value propositions, customer segments, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure. Emphasis was placed on how digital transformation is influencing modern business strategies and the increasing dependence on technology-driven solutions. In the second half of the session, cyber security and ethical hacking took center stage. Mr. Chinmay discussed the importance of securing digital assets and proactive cyber security measures to prevent cyber threats. He provided an overview of common vulnerabilities businesses face in the digital age, including phishing attacks, ransomware, and data breaches. Hands-on demonstrations of penetration testing tools, network security techniques, and ethical hacking practices helped students understand real-world cyber security challenges. The workshop concluded with an interactive session where students clarified their doubts and explored career opportunities in cyber security and entrepreneurship. It effectively emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with security to build sustainable and resilient businesses in the digital era. Overall, the event was a great success, inspiring students to develop technologically sound and secure business models.
