Industrial Visit Students of the 5th Semester Marine Engineering of Srinivas Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the Industry-Institute Interaction Cell, visited four renowned shipbuilding and repair facilities in Goa on the 15th and 16th of November 2024. The visit was led by Professors Nithin Joshuva and Vivek Vijay Kumar of the department. The visit began at Chowgule Shipbuilding, known for its modular construction techniques and efficient assembly lines that produce mid-sized cargo vessels, barges, and fishing trawlers. Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a government-owned defense shipbuilding enterprise, showcased advanced CAD/CAM tools, precision fabrication, and an automated block-building process for naval ships and patrol vessels. At Mandovi Drydocks, the focus was on ship repair and maintenance activities, including hull inspections and drydocking procedures crucial for ensuring vessel safety and longevity. The tour concluded at Dempo Drydocks, which specializes in retrofitting and overhauls, employing environmentally friendly practices such as waste treatment, recycling systems, and advanced coatings to minimize marine growth and enhance vessel efficiency.
