The Department:

Department of MCA started in the year 2008, offering three years full time M.C.A. programme affiliated to VTU, Belgaum. It believes in creating intellectual capital that will be a basis for a strong and effervescent world in the commercial arena.
With the influx of MNC’s and opening up of the global market, the need for the Computer Science in every dynamics of business has heightened. This has aggravated the necessity of new breed employees with Technical based training.

Department Aim:

The Department aims in creating Technical Professionals who represent the union of best class room experience and practical exposure.

Duration of the Course :

2 Years (4 Semesters)

Eligibility:

Who passed the Bachelor Degree examinations from a recognized University with not less than 50% (45% for SC/ST and Category-I) of marks in aggregate of all years with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Programming or Computer Applications or Business Mathematics or Business statistics as one of the subjects. The candidates who have studied and passed one of the above mentioned subjects in Pre-University course with 50% of marks are also eligible. In addition, candidates need to appear for any recognized Entrance Exam like PGCET.

The programme’s thrust is on giving the students a thorough and sound background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the latest computer software development. The programme emphasizes the application of software technology to solve mathematical, computing, communications/networking and commercial problems. This Master’s Degree Programme has been designed with a semester approach in mind.

MCA (Master of Computer Applications) is a 2-year postgraduate program offered by VTU. The MCA course is a very good option for those who want to pursue a career in software. MCA courses offer good job opportunities for graduates in Multinational as well as other software firms with an attractive pay packet.

MCA is a course exclusively designed to meet the IT requirements of IT Trained Students for various organizations. The well balanced course significantly emphasizes on planning, designing and building of complex commercial application software and system software. The course also places equal importance on the functional knowledge in various areas. A three year full-time MCA course is not just a postgraduate course; it is also a complete professional grooming for students for a successful career in the IT Industry.
The fact that industries in India and abroad have been placing the MCA students on regular basis is testimony to the quality of course and its students.
a) MCA graduates begin their career as junior programmers and grow at a very fast pace to become systems analysts and project leaders. Since the course is also designed towards the research side, some students pursue higher studies. Yet others seek entrepreneurial roles like consultation etc.
b) Application areas include transaction processing (such as banking, stock exchange order processing) simulation, database management, e-commerce, design support and data communications, networking, embedded technologies etc.
