Marine Innovations and Patents

A talk on “Marine Innovations and Patents” was organized on the occasion of World IPR Day 2026 by AIMES, Department of Marine Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, in association with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), YUKTI Cell, and EDP Cell. The program was conducted on 27th April 2026

The event was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of innovation, intellectual property rights, patents, and sustainable technological solutions, especially in the field of marine engineering and allied domains. The program aimed to help students understand how engineering ideas can be protected legally and converted into useful products through innovation and intellectual property protection.

The program was coordinated by Prof. Sunil Prakash R, Event Coordinator, and Mr. Vivek V Kumar, YUKTI & IPR Coordinator. The event was also jointly organized by Mr. Chandra Jogi, Event Coordinator. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Lokesh V, HOD, Department of Marine Engineering, and with the support of Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator, and Dr. Sooryakrishna, EDP Cell Coordinator. The encouragement and support of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology, added value to the successful conduct of the event.

The resource person for the session was Mr. Vivek Vijay Kumar, IPR & YUKTI Coordinator. During the session, he explained the importance of intellectual property rights and patents in protecting innovative engineering ideas. He emphasized that patents play a major role in converting technical solutions into commercially useful products.

As part of the talk, Mr. Vivek Vijay Kumar discussed ten important marine inventions and their related intellectual property aspects. He explained the background of these inventions, the problems they were intended to solve, and the process through which such ideas were developed into practical products. The session also covered how inventions in the marine field can move from concept stage to product stage through research, development, documentation, patent filing, and commercialization.
