The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, in association with the Industry–Institute Interaction Cell and AIMES, organized an industrial visit for the 6th Semester Marine Engineering students to Chennai Port on 7th April 2026. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to industrial operations, manufacturing processes, and workplace safety practices. The industrial visit was successfully conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D and Head of the Department Dr. Lokesh V, and was coordinated by Prof. Sathisha K G and Prof. Sunil Prakash R

The visit was arranged through Kings Ship Pvt Ltd. Students gained practical knowledge about port operations, cargo handling systems, and shipping activities at Chennai Port. They also visited the workshop section where repair and maintenance of marine equipment such as pumps, valves, and pipelines were carried out.

Engineers demonstrated maintenance procedures and explained the importance of inspection and preventive maintenance in marine industries. A demonstration session on the shipping industry was also conducted, providing insights into ship operations, marine engineering systems, and career opportunities in the maritime sector. Students observed various industrial safety measures followed at the port and workshop, including the use of personal protective equipment and workplace safety practices.

Overall, the industrial visit was highly informative and helped students understand the practical applications of marine engineering concepts and port operations, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial exposure.
