Innovate with IoT Prototyping Smart Mechanical Solutions
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, in association with the All-Students Mechanical Association (ASMA), Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Yukti Cell, organized a One Day Workshop on “Innovate with IoT Prototyping Smart Mechanical Solutions” on 26th February 2026 at 11:00 AM in M101.
The workshop was conducted with the objective of introducing students to the fundamentals of Internet of Things (IoT) and its application in developing smart mechanical systems. The session aimed at encouraging students to integrate mechanical engineering concepts with emerging digital technologies to build innovative, real-time, and automated solutions for modern industrial challenges. The Resource Person, Prof. Vivek Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Marine Engineering, SIT, Mangaluru, delivered an insightful and technically enriching session. He explained the core concepts of IoT architecture, sensors, microcontrollers, data acquisition systems, cloud integration, and real-time monitoring. The session also highlighted practical applications of IoT in smart manufacturing, predictive maintenance, automation, energy management, and marine systems. During the interactive session, students gained hands-on knowledge about IoT-based prototyping, including the integration of hardware components with software platforms. The workshop emphasized innovation-driven thinking and encouraged participants to develop smart mechanical solutions aligned with Industry 4.0 concepts.
The program was organized under the guidance and support of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, Dr. Shankar K S, Head of the Department, Dr. Raghavendra M J, IA–IIC, Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator, Prof. Sandesh K S, IIC Event Coordinator, Prof. Vivek V Kumar, Coordinator – Yukti Cell
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The session was highly interactive, informative, and beneficial in enhancing students’ technical competence and innovative mindset. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, resource person, faculty members, student coordinators, and participants for making the workshop a grand success. The program successfully reflected the institution’s commitment towards promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven learning under the banner of IIC and ASMA.
