On February 19, 2026, the Department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE) and the Department of Computer Science and Design (CSD), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized an analytical activity titled “Smart Rainfall Analytics for Sustainable Water Resource Management” for the students of ISE and CSD. The activity was aligned with the IIC theme “Sustainable Development & Climate Resilience through Data Analytics.”

Students worked on a rainfall data monitoring case study where they designed a C program to analyze 12 months of rainfall data. The task included identifying the highest rainfall month, counting drought months (rainfall < 50 mm), calculating the annual average rainfall, and determining whether the rainfall pattern was stable or unstable using sequential comparison.

Through this activity, students applied core C programming concepts such as arrays, loops, conditional statements, and aggregate calculations in a real-world environmental context. The session emphasized how basic programming and data analytics can support sustainable water resource management and climate resilience.

The program was conducted under the guidance and support of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, and Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator. The academic leadership of Prof. Sudarshan K, Head of the Department, ISE & CSD, contributed to the smooth execution of the activity. The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Aparna N and Prof. Sahana B, with support from Prof. Sowmya, ISE Staff Advisor, and Prof. Archana D, CSD Staff Advisor.

Overall, the activity strengthened analytical thinking and demonstrated the practical application of programming in addressing environmental challenges.
