Definition of Architecture: “Architecture is the fundamental organization of a system embodied in its components, their relationships to each other, and to the environment, and the principles guiding its design and evolution.”

Architecture engineering is one of the top career choices made by students in India. There are multiple opportunities in this field for architects equally in private and public sectors. Skilled professionals can seek employment in government organizations such as city development, state and central public work, departments, municipalities, housing and urban development corporation. The most advantaged scope in the field of architecture is private practice. After gaining some experience in an organization, the architects can set up their own company.

Professionals in this career can also opt for teaching jobs in universities and colleges. A skilled architect, to work as a consultant or to set up private practice, should register with the council of architecture before beginning their profession. The council of architecture constituted by the government of India is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of profession throughout India besides maintaining the register of architects. Individual architects or architectural practices can opt to specialize in one number of fields such as, hospital, housing or educational services.

Eligibility of the Cource:

Admission for the first year of the course shall be open to the students (a) who have passed the two year Pre-University examination conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-University Board or Central Board of Secondary Education with Mathematics as a subject of study; who possess Three-Year Diploma in any stream recognized by Government of Karnataka, or any other State government or Central government or any other Diploma qualification considered equivalent there to by this University . The candidates shall have secured a minimum of 50% of marks in the qualifying examination. Provided that candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and any other groups classified by the Government of Karnataka for such purpose from time to time shall be considered eligible for admission, if they have passed the qualifying examination giving eligibility for B.Arch. admission with 45% of marks. All the candidates seeking admission to B.Arch. shall pass the National Aptitude Test conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi. Currently, the pass marks is 80 out of 200 in the NATA. This requirement is to be fulfilled by all candidates including those belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other classified groups.

Career Opportunities:

The career opportunities for these graduates are high at present. These graduates can work as independent professionals or can take up jobs in Government or private sectors. Teaching in this field is also another option for the pleasant career. Anyone who had successfully completed B.Arch can register with COA. This can be done through agencies like CPWD. UPSC organizes examinations for these registered candidates to recruit them in various departments.
The pay packages for these professionals are increasing due to the demand for them in the construction and designing fields. The remuneration given for the skilled professionals in private sector is higher compared to others. An experienced professional can earn up to Rs.2 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum and the fresher can earn from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.1.5 lakh per annum.
Architects held about 141,000 jobs in 2008. Most of these jobs were in the architectural, engineering, and related services industry. A small number worked for residential and nonresidential building construction firms and for government agencies. About 21% of all architects was self-employed.

Course Objectives:

Architecture engineering is a division of engineering that deals with the construction of buildings comprising its ventilation, air conditioning systems, structural integrity, lightning planning, fire safety and electrical systems. Architectural engineer’s job is to provide plans on construction design and layouts of a building and structures on which they work. A candidate who specializes in this field is known as an architect. Architects are the licensed qualified professionals in the art and science of building. Apart from construction and designing, architects are also taught in activities ranging from theoretical problem solving to project management. Architecture engineering is a multi-disciplinary profession that involves a range of tasks at work. This field has become one of the most career oriented field for students in recent times.
